Obituary for Marguerite Harwood "Margie" Kreisle

Marguerite Harwood Kreisle died Saturday, September 22, 2012. She was born June 14, 1922, in San Antonio, Texas.

She is survived by her children, Linda Kreisle Littlefield, Matthew F. Kreisle III, and his wife, Rita; Nancy Roane Kreisle Higgins, and her husband, Don; Marguerite (Missy) Harwood Kreisle; and Jo Rochelle Kreisle Hull, and her husband, George; son-in-law, William C. Holford; grandchildren, Laurie Holford Curtin, William C. Holford Jr., Robin Holford LeFrance, Morgan Enderby, Claudia Ramsey Kreisle, and Carrie Badgett Graham; great grandchildren, William Curtin, Matthew Curtin, Andrew Curtin, Lauren LeFrance, Stephen LeFrance, and Matthew LeFrance; sister-in-law, Agnes Harwood; and nieces and nephews, Gail Harwood, Catherine Harwood Taylor, Anne Harwood, James E. Kreisle Jr., Helen Kreisle Holzen, Margaret Kreisle Clark, and William H. Kreisle. Her husband, Matthew F. Kreisle Jr., and her brother, Archibald Roane Harwood, preceded her in death.

Margie was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, the Junior League of Austin and West Lake Hills Garden Club. She served on the board of directors of the Eanes History Center. Her paternal great grandfather, Thomas Moore Harwood, was a member of the commission that founded the University of Texas and he was a member of the university’s first board of regents.

Margie was a wonderful lady who set an example for everyone for how to treat people, serve the community and live life. She loved the outdoors, crossword puzzles and a good book. She had a tender heart for any homeless pet that came her way and loved all animals, especially dogs. She took in and provided a loving home for too many dogs to mention.

Her family extends its thanks and gratitude to the staff at Westminster Manor for its care and to the staff at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House for making her comfortable during the last few days of her life.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 26, at 11 a.m., at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 3201 Windsor Dr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margie’s memory to the Austin Humane Society and to Hospice Austin’s Christopher House.
