Obituary for Berniece King

Berniece King was called home to our Lord on August 16, 2012. She and her loving daughter Susan were on their annual trip to Colorado.

Born on February 21, 1926 in McCune, KS to Lela Givens Kirby and George Washington Kirby. She was the youngest of eight children. She was the last surviving sibling, and in July, attended our annual Kirby Family Reunion in McCune, KS.

Proceeded in death by her loving husband Clinton C. King (Papa).

She grew up in McCune and upon graduating from high school moved to Tulsa, OK where she lived many years. Upon retirement, she and Clinton moved to Arkansas and spent the summers in Rockport, Texas.

Survived by: Her loving daughter, Susan Douglass and her husband Tom Douglass to whom she was his “Mom.” Five years ago she built her home next door to Susan and Tom to be close to them. She was a very important part of their lives and will be greatly missed. Her grandson Jeffrey Goodsell and his wife Amy, who she loved as a granddaughter and their three children. Her grandson Brian Goodsell and his fiancée Katie Sadler. She was so happy for their upcoming marriage and the addition of another great grandchild. Mammo and Papa spent many summers with Jeffrey and Brian fly fishing, camping, and riding 4-wheelers on the farm. She had many fond memories of these good times and loved to talk about them. Her great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Leighton Reese, Turner Adams, and Cecily Jane Goodsell. And soon to be Grace, daughter of Katie Sadler. Berniece also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that she loved so dearly.

There was not a more loving Mother, Mom, Grandmother (Mammo), Great Grandmother, Aunt, and friend. She will always be loved and dearly missed by family and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 21, 2012, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, Texas.
