Obituary for Mozelle Gist Davies

Mozelle Gist Davies, 92, passed away on August 17, 2012. She was preceded in death by her son Danny, grandson Daniel, and three husbands, C.B. Duke Jr., Walter R. Johnson, and F.C. Davies, and two brothers James and Loyd Gist.
Mozelle was born at home in Franklin County, Texas on February 11, 1920, the daughter of Pinkie Lillian and John Grady Gist. Mozelle grew up in Saltillo, Texas with her two younger brothers James Earl and Loyd Grady Gist. She accepted our Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at age 11 at the First Baptist Church in Saltillo. Mozelle graduated from high school in 1936 and attended Neilson Beauty School in Dallas, Texas and became a Hair Stylist.
In 1940 she married C.B. Duke Jr., and moved to Carthage, Texas. They had a son, Daniel Gist Duke and a daughter Darlene. Mozelle joined The First Christian Church and was active in Christian Women's Fellowship, taught vacation bible school and taught Sunday School classes for both youth and adults.
After C.B.'s death, Mozelle married Walter Johnson and moved to Bastrop. They spent many happy years together. After Walter's death, she married F.C. Davies and continued to live in Bastrop until his death.
Mozelle loved sports, fishing, hunting, boating and skiing. She became a Senior Life Saver when her young children became interested in water sports. She had a passion for golf and became President of the Women's Golf Association at Texarkana Country Club. She later served as President of The Texas Women's Amateur Golf Association and served on the board for six years.
Mozelle studied art later in life. A truly amazing talent was discovered and she spent many years creating beautiful paintings. She was a member of The Austin Palette Club.
Mozelle will be remembered for her many delicious recipes and her love of entertaining. She had a delightful sense of humor and loved telling jokes.
Mozelle is survived by her daughter Darlene Bohuslav, her grandsons Adam Bohuslav and fiancé
Helen Maas and Matt Bohuslav and wife Claire McDonough of Austin. She is also survived by her granddaughter Lisa Duke and daughter-in-law Judy Duke of San Antonio.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Cedar Ridge Alzheimer's Specialty Care in Cedar Park, Texas. Their love and compassion for her is much appreciated.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2012 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Chapel, 411 Ranch Road 620 South.
