Marcia Mae Dickson Kinsey died on March 26, 2012, in Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Grayson and Mae Dickson. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Lendvay; her devoted husband of fifty years, Richard H. Kinsey; her four children, Matthew Kinsey and fiancé Liv Kaplan; David Kinsey and wife Marcia; Suzanne Taylor and husband Tim; Michael Kinsey and wife Cathy; her grandchildren Justin Talley; Erin Jeffers and husband Steve; Benjamin Kinsey; Will, Hannah and Sophie Taylor; Dominic and Blair Kinsey; and great grandson Jaden Talley; her nieces and nephew Rachel Foreman and husband Ray; Elisa Lendvay and fiancé Ryan Franklin; John Lendvay, wife Jessica and son Oscar; brothers-in-law John Kinsey, wife Marites, and his children Melissa Sanero and family and Dan Kinsey and family; Victor Kinsey, wife Cheryl and family; sisters-in-law Christy Turner, husband Tom and her daughter Maria Juliana Murphy; Julia Welch, husband Bryce and children Andrew and Sarah; and her many cousins, especially Henry Altmiller, friends, colleagues and former students.
Marcia was born on April 7, 1940 in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she attended elementary and high schools, and first conspired with her lifelong friends Margie Cruse and Jodie Roy in kindergarten. She attended the University of Dallas, where she met Richard. They were married on July 28, 1962. Marcia worked at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas for thirty-five years in a variety of roles, including Dean of the School of Humanities and Associate Professor of English. Over the course of her life, she had a passion for her students, for music, dance, theater and literature, for new ideas and the life of the mind, but most especially for her family. She was a wonderful, loving and compassionate wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother, for whom life was a grand and joyous comedy. Her passing is a great loss for all who knew her, especially her students.
Marcia's family is grateful to all the staff of Texas Oncology, particularly Dr. Beth Hellerstedt, Nurse Practitioner Lisa Painter, Dr. Morris Groves, Dr. Carl Neuesh, her "radiation girls" at Balcones, and especially Jennifer Schwartz, an angel of compassion. The staff of Innovative Senior Care, particularly Sandra Charles, was a great support. Traci Hiller, the soothing and comforting Mimi Bernhardt, Shanna Bond, and sweet and tender Frankie Olvera of Hospice Compassus were nothing short of miraculous in their support of the whole family. Finally, Fr. Rick Wilkinson's ministry to Marcia and her family continues to be an invaluable source of kindness, care and comfort.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a contribution to the Bishop John McCarthy CAMP Scholarship Endowment at St. Edward's University.
A memorial prayer service will held on Friday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m., and the Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, March 31 at 10:00 a.m., both at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel, St. Edward's University, 3001 South Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas.
