Condolence: I have very fond memories of spending time with my Mema growing up. She was a very important influence in the development of my faith. We would attend church at First Baptist every Sunday and before church at my request, she would drive around the Capitol to search for the infamous albino squirrel. I thought it was a sign when one Sunday we saw it sitting on the Ten Commandments statue. She would always tell me stories on the way to church and I so intrigued by her version of the Titanic that I would ask to hear it again and again each week. She later told me that she tried to embellish the story to make it a little more interesting each time. She contributed greatly to my love of music. During our trips to church, she introduced me to Elvis Presley and Cat Stevens, both singers that I love today. She took me to choir each Wednesday night and spent many hours playing the piano as I memorized many hymns. One of our favorite hymns was Morning Has Broken that coincidentally was sung by Cat Stevens. She tried to pass her piano playing skills to me by taking me to piano lessons. I didn't appreciate it at the time, but it is a skill that I now wish I had acquired. I always looked forward to the family tradition of spending Christmas Eve at Mema's house each year. She took me on many excursions including a trip to Arkansas to visit my Aunt Jonthy. She had me document my experiences on the trip and utilized her Secretary skills to type it and gave me a copy so that I could always remember. I cherish all of these memories and am looking forward to the day when I will be reunited with Mema again.
