Obituary for Petra Jalifi

Petra V. Jalifi a longtime Austin resident was born on August 2, 1928 in Alice, Texas. She left this world on April 18, 2012. She is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Adela Villagran; brother, Antonio Villagran, and husband, Celestino Jalifi. Her survivors include her loving children, Rosy and Alfred Jalifi; sister Guadalupe Gonzales of Chicago; Jamie Jalifi (Maria) of Huntsville, Texas; Emma (Robert) Hinojosa of San Antonio, Texas; Eva (Ireneo) Cisnernos of Harlingen, Texas; and, Oscar (Aminta) Jalifi of Houston, Texas. Other survivors include many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
Mrs. Jalifi was a faithful Roman Catholic and devoted parishioner of Austin's Saint Mary Cathedral. Her spiritual life was enriched by the beautiful music of the Cathedral Schola that she enjoyed listening to each week.
Petra dedicated her life to her children and home and provided loving care and nurturing. She was also a loyal friend who enjoyed friends' company and conversations. Her principal hobby was gardening and she took pleasure in watching her gardenias and hydrangeas bloom.
All who loved her will miss her beautiful smile. But, by the same token, she left behind many beautiful and warm smiles that will give her children, family and friends comfort as they walk through life without her.
The following words from Proverbs describes Petra:
"When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls.
Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize.
She brings him good, and not evil, all the days of her life.
She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs at the days to come.
She opens her mouth in wisdom, and on her tongue is kindly counsel.
She watches the conduct of her household, and eats not her food in idleness.
Her children rise up and praise her; her husband, too, extols her…."
(Prov. 11-12; 26-28)
