Obituary for Maxine Israel

Mary Maxine Magee Israel was born in Lockhart, Texas, January 10, 1918 to Arthur and Addie Magee, the youngest of four children. She passed away in LaGrange, Texas, October 3, 2012, at the age of 94.

She grew up on a farm and her one prize possession was her horse Bonnie. She graduated from high school in Creedmoor, Texas.

Maxine and Mack Israel were married March 27, 1937, and were married for 56 years at the time of his death in 1993. Mack was with the Austin Fire Department for many years prior to his retirement. Together they enjoyed boating and spending time at their mobile home on Canyon Lake.

Maxine was a long-time member of Congress Avenue Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school and Training Union teacher as well as Sunday School Superintendent. She worked for several years in the ready-to-wear departments of some of Austin’s larger stores.

Maxine is survived by her daughter, Vonnie Herring of Bellville, Texas; grandson, Todd and wife Linda of Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Laurie Ribble of Katy, Texas; two great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her nephew, Reverend GA Magee and wife June; and niece, Ruby Head.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Care Inn of LaGrange for the wonderful care Maxine received for the past seven years and to Hospice Brazos Valley in LaGrange for the loving care and attention she received these past months.

Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Palm Valley Cemetery in Round Rock. Service will be conducted by Reverend GA Magee.
