Obituary for Waynie Meredith White (Greer)

Waynie Meredith Greer White, 91, died on September 6, 2012. She was born August 6, 1921, in Wills Point Texas, to Waynie Meredith and Earl Greer, who preceded her in death, as well as her brother, Earl M. Greer of Annapolis, Maryland.

The family moved to Austin in 1937, and Waynie graduated from Austin High School in 1939. She graduated from The University of Texas in 1943 with a BA in English and Spanish. Waynie was also known by the nickname of Tag, a name given her at a young age by her big brother when she would tag along with him and his friends.

On May 7, 1949, Waynie was married in University Baptist Church, Austin, to Arnold Easton White from Ann Arbor, Michigan. They moved to Michigan, had two children and were living in Detroit when Arnold died from bulbar polio on Oct. 7, 1953. She returned in Austin to be near her family in 1955.

Waynie is survived by her children, Peggy and Steve Foucart of Springfield, MO, and Jim and Susie White of Houston, TX, and her grandchildren, Rob and Arnold Foucart, and Carol, Emily and David White, and by her sister-in-law, Anne Greer, and their children Patti, Steve, Tom, Nancy and Dorothy.

Waynie worked for the University of Texas for over 45 years. She was working in the Office of Sponsored Projects at the time of her retirement in 1989. She traveled extensively for years after retirement. She was a member of University United Methodist Church.

Waynie will be missed, especially by her children, for whom she had been both mother and father. She will be remembered for her friendly, positive attitude. Even with her health issues, she didn't complain. She lived at Westminster Manor, where she had and made many friends. She was always busy playing cards in her many bridge and shanghai groups.

Waynie loved and was especially proud of her children and grandchildren. She loved all things Longhorn, bridge, cats and her family. How she lived her life in both good and adverse times has and will always serve as a wonderful example and inspiration for all of us.

Waynie and her family wish to give thanks to the staff at Westminster and St David's Hospital, as well as to Dr. Michael Pellegrini, Dr. Harish Gagneja and Buckner Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion, and especially the entire staff at Westminster’s Arbour.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Waynie's name to the Austin Humane Society or any local animal rescue group, or to the charity of your choice.

A celebration of her life will be led by Rev. Bernie Sandberg of University United Methodist Church and will be held in the Chapel at Westminster's Preston Building at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 under the direction of Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Westminster is located at 4100 Jackson Avenue. Burial will be in White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point, Texas.
