Bernice Lucas of Austin passed away August 24, 2012 at the age of 98. She was born on March 13, 1914, to the parents of Rina and Euel Moore on a ranch in Click Route, Llano Texas. At the age of 16 she left for Austin to pursue her career as a beautician. She worked and eventually owned the Penthouse Hair Salon which was located in the Penthouse Apartments on Rio Grande. At the age of 20, she married Ted Lucas, who worked at the Capital Chevrolet located at Lamar/Congress. During the forty years she was married, Bernice enjoyed travelling extensively across the globe and spending weekends at the family lake house on lake lbj.

Bernice was forever helping people in need or animals. After retiring she directed that passion to volunteering where she was active in the Austin area with the Salvation Army- Meals on Wheels, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Muscular Dystrophy. In 2007 she was awarded “Volunteer of the Year” by the Salvation Army of Austin. Her other passions were dominoes and swimming which she attributed to her long life.

Bernice will be missed by many as she leaves behind her brother, Jim Moore and sister-in-law Bobbie Jean Moore of Llano, numerous nieces and nephews. Most importantly, those who remained by her side during her latter years, Emmett and Nita Ragland, Joe and Elizabeth Day and Karla Moore Grant.

She was preceded in death by her sister Marjorie Day Hiles, brother Myron “Judge” Moore, parents and husband.

Her thoughtfulness and inspiration will be missed by all who had the gift of knowing her. She was a good person.

Visitation will be held 9:00 am – 10:00 am on Monday, August 27, 2012 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue. A Graveside Service to follow at 11:30 am at Honey Creek Cemetery, Llano, Texas.
