Dorothy Nell Cross passed away peacefully on August 21, 2012 at the age of 89. The youngest of five children, she was born in Valley Mills, Texas to Henry Shepard and Mattie Puella Lewis. Her family moved to Austin where she graduated from Austin High School and attended The University of Texas. She married Jack Cross and spent the next 69 years as a beloved wife and mother. Dorothy enjoyed reading and gardening. She loved decorating and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and sister, Helen. Dorothy was a member of University United Methodist Church, which always provided a great source of comfort for her.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; son, Geoffrey; brother, Hal; and sisters, Lilybeth and Christine. She is survived by her son, Gregory; daughter-in-law, Bonnie; grandchildren, Hunter and Ashley; sister, Helen Coffman; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the many caregivers and medical professionals for their loving care and support of her.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 24 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel on North Lamar.
