Obituary for Karen Gustafson Quebe

Karen Gustafson Quebe, 66, surrounded by her loving family, went peacefully to be with her Lord on November 5, 2008, in Austin, Texas, after a brief battle with cancer. Born November 2, 1942, to Ralph and Mildred Gustafson of Galveston, Texas, Karen was defined by her devotion to family and serving her community. She was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Ball High School in Galveston, Texas. For the last 14 years Karen served as Community Outreach Coordinator for KLRU-TV in Austin and was a nationally recognized leader in public television. Karen's guidance and vision garnered respect and accolades from her peers. She was the first recipient of the Outreach Professional of the Year Award given by the National Center for Outreach in 2003. Prior to her time at KLRU, she was an author, director of several nonprofit agencies and a preschool teacher. Her leadership, friendship and support will be profoundly missed by all whose lives she touched. Karen is survived by her husband of 44 years, Raymond J. Quebe, of Austin, Texas; son Jeffrey Quebe of Dallas, Texas; daughter Julia, son-in-law Scott and granddaughter Siena Peterson of Austin, Texas; brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Debbie Gustafson of Simonton, Texas; sister-in-law Linda Quebe of Galveston, Texas; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Rick and Karen Quebe of San Antonio, Texas; along with extended family and close friends too numerous to mention. A memorial viewing for family and friends will be held Sunday, November 9, 2008, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin, Texas. Services will be held on Monday, November 10, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish with graveside services to follow at Austin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to support KLRU Television's Community Outreach Programs to carry on Karen's vision. Contributions can be mailed to P.O.
