Obituary for Elaine Stanley Inglehart

Elaine Stanley Inglehart, a resident of Austin since 1996, died on January 31st, 2009, at the age of 76. The only child of Robert and Joanna Stanley, she was born Elaine Laurette Stanley in Salem, OR on December 14th, 1932. She graduated Lewis and Clark College in 1955 with a Business Degree and worked in financial services when she married William A. Inglehart on December 3rd, 1955. They moved to Arizona and raised two children although Elaine always preferred the rainy climate of the Northwest and liked nothing more than a rainy day. In 1964 the family relocated to Houston, TX, where Elaine became active in service clubs and charity nursing. Houston's rainy climate helped Elaine delight in growing dozens of bromeliads. It was also in Houston that Elaine flourished in the kitchen, testing her culinary skills and collecting several hundred cookbooks. She is survived by her children, William A. Inglehart III, of Henderson, NV, and Tamra Gorman and her husband, John, and her grandchildren Ryleigh Helene and John Joseph Gorman V of Austin; and cousins, Richard J. Day, James C. Gorter and Jenn G. Collins of Portland, OR. Inurnment will be at the Portland Memorial Mausoleum, Portland, Oregon. Please call (503) 236-4141 for further service information. The family thanks the staff at Querencia at Barton Creek and the compassionate people at Hospice Austin. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Hospice Austin in Elaine's memory.
