Obituary for Johnny Quiroz

Johnny Quiroz, 77, passed away on May 19, 2010 at Seton Hospital after a prolonged illness. Johnny a true Austinite, retired in 1993 as a Civilian Engineer from Bergstrom Air Force Base after 30 years of service. Johnny served in the US Army for 2 years of active service during the Korean War and 6 years of Inactive Duty. He loved to listen to music, loved to dance, travel, fish, watch movies and take walks but above all, he loved his family. In essence, he loved life itself and he lived it to its fullest. He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Tomas and Louisa Quiroz, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by three sisters. His beloved wife of 58 years, Rebecca Quiroz; three daughters, Terri Rangel of Austin, Tx., Rose Ann Frye of Nashville, Tn., Marilyn Broussard of Broussard, La. and one son, John Quiroz of Austin, Tx., eight grandchildren; Brian Frye, Rebecca Rangel, Clayton Broussard, Jesse Rangel, Valerie Tovar, Kristina Quiroz, Sydney Quiroz and Ava Quiroz and one great grandchild, Slade Saucedo. Johnny will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 24, 2010 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Monsignor Fred Bomar officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Oaks Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alex Tristan Jr., Joe Elvis Tristan, Jesse Rangel, Clayton Broussard, Gilbert Rangel and Ray Salazar. Honorary pallbearers Brian Frye, Kerry Broussard, Linda Paschall, Sydney Quiroz, Tony Tristan Sr., Tony Tristan Jr., Johnny Martinez, and Louis White. The Quiroz family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Satellite Dialysis, especially, Dr. Paul Miller, Nurse Connie, Riza and Adora as well as his family doctor of 21 years, Dr. Howard Marcus.
