Condolence From: Sarah Eckhardt
Condolence: I was just in Chicago thinking of Mari. I thought I'd look her up since that was the last place I had contact with her. We were in the Atlantic Theater Company together. I am heartsick to know she was right here in Austin, so close. I missed reconnecting. But, with Mari I suppose connection is never lost. She has a pull on everyone she meets - even now. A New York friend just sent me the YNN link. Still performing at the last, still discharging her duty as an artist to bring the human soul to the stage. What a gift to us all! Much love -Sarah

Condolence: Recién vi una película de Ben Stiller donde ella actúa como simpática doctora, quise saber más sobre su grata personalidad y es triste enterarme que falleció muy joven aún. Dios la tenga en el cielo descansando en paz y resignación a sus familiares.

Condolence From: Ivonne Coll
Condolence: What a great honor for me it was to cross your path on Earth. I would watch your work and talents and incredible energy on the stage while I waited for my entrance from the sidelines, when we worked at La Jolla Playhouse and you never ceased to amaze me. It was a delight to see your work and to hear your delightful raspy voice in songs and to know you as the passionate, intelligent, enterprising and political person and great human being that you were. God Bless you my friend, until we meet again in the next journey. Mucho Love Siempre, Ivonne Coll.

Condolence: Maricella and I worked together years ago for an after school theater arts program. The students adored her and so did I. I remember how she would welcome the students into the space. Each child would hit a drum and state their name with confidence. She inspired them. I feel honored to have been graced with her presence.

Condolence: Mari, I remember the fun times that I had paying over at your house on 18th Street in Galveston. You were always running around with your curls bouncing wildly. I wish I had stayed in touch with you later in life, you accomplished so much at such a young age. You were taken too soon from your family, but I know that you are in His arms now and you are free from pain. Although our hearts ache, we know that you are now at peace.

Condolence: Mari, many said that you had a gift for bringing people together. I believe that is true, because during your illness I had the opportunity to meet so many nice people that you had befriended. I was able to share with them what you meant to them and as a result my picture of you became deepened. I will miss your warm hugs and kisses and "How are yous?". It was an honor to care for you during your last two weeks. Your resilience, compassion, love and concern for others will be my fondest memories of you. We will see each other in God's Big House. With much love-Yoli

Condolence From: Kim Mytelka
Condolence: I was first honored to meet Mari at auditions for Vanities at The UpperDeck Theatre in Galveston. Wow! What a beautiful, energetic, and talented woman! I remember hoping against hope that I would be cast along with her. And luckily, I was! Mari, Robin, and I became instant friends! Sharing a stage with her was one of the best memories of my life! But it got better - later that same year, I cast Mari as Lola in Damn Yankees, and even though our stage relationship changed - our friendship grew stronger.

Condolence From: Hope Cooke
Condolence: The first time I ever met Mari, it was at a celebration for a friend and was just before she and Mark were married. I was amazed by her energy, in awe of her beauty and her vibrant spirit, and forever changed after sharing her presence for just a few short hours. I have had the honor and privilege to walk in many events on her behalf with some of her closest friends. I have listened as others have shared her stories, her strength and her determination. There is a picture of a few of "the Brown-Eyed Girl" followers with mari in the middle of us, after a Moody Gardens walk that stays on my dresser to remind me of the strength and courage that she possessed, and that I should possess as well. To all her family and friends - I shared in your loss, but take joy in knowing your lives are forever more rich because of her presence here on earth.

May God smile on the the Ochoa family and may He wipe their tears away. May they find peace in knowing that their beloved Mari is now seating at the banquet where one day they will join her and celebrate God's love for eternity. Condolence: Mari and i met during a weekend of theater making. Her infectious laugh and embrace quickly made us close friends. When she decided to move to LA she stayed with me, we had lots of late nights, honest talks, BBQ ribs and many many laughs. I invited her to the sweat lodge I was a part of and she quickly became a committed and devoted member of the circle. I know her courage and big love came from her family. And we are all blessed to have received it as much as we did. I send blessings and prayers of light and love to Mark, her parents and extended family.

Atte. Tu prima La diabla.

Condolence From: ELLEN LLANEZ CHRP #10
Condolence: I was fortunate enough to meet Mari because she hosted my CRHP renewal weekend. Her presence always lit up a room with her sweet and witty demeanor. I recently lost a beloved grandmother, aunt, and brother-in-law to cancer and Mari always gave me a reassuring hug and always asked me how they were doing. She has now joined them in God's great kingdom because He only takes the best. Her inner and outer beauty will be missed and will leave an emptiness in our hearts, but we can be comforted that she will be waiting for us at the Gates of Heaven when it is our turn to meet our beloved Maker.
