Obituary for John Carlton Pemberton Jr.

John Carlton Pemberton, Jr., 70, of Austin, Texas, died July 25, 2012. He was born August 24, 1941, in Ironton, Ohio, the son of John Carlton Pemberton, Sr. and Mary Virginia Chapman Pemberton.
He is survived by his son, Scott Pemberton and his wife Gloria; grandchildren Allyson and Jordan Pemberton; and his sister, Linda Dillow and her husband Paul of Ormond Beach, Florida.
John was born and raised in Ironton, Ohio. For most of his upbringing he lived across the alley from his mother's parents, Everett and Mina Chapman. He attended Whitwell Elementary through the 7th grade and then Ironton High School, which he graduated from in 1959. He attended the University of Cincinnati for two years and studied engineering, worked for a year at Allied Chemical, then attended Indiana Institute of Technology where he was consistently on the President's List for maintaining a high grade point average and earned his degree in chemical engineering. After graduation he was hired by DuPont where he spent his entire career as a chemical engineer at plants in Delaware, Mississippi and California until his retirement in 1999.
During the early part of his high school years he met his future wife, Linda Helm. They dated through high school and were eventually married in August of 1962. They had one son, Scott Pemberton, before parting ways in 1969, and they remained friends throughout.
John played sports throughout his life, including youth basketball and baseball leagues, softball and bowling leagues as an adult and also played golf most of his life up until about three weeks before his passing. He was known to have a sarcastic sense of humor and endeared himself to many people he came in contact with. May God bless him in heaven as he did while on Earth.
The family will receive guests from 1:00 – 4:00 PM Saturday, August 11, 2012, in the Magnolia Room at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis, 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, Texas. (512) 263-1511.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Austin Humane Society, 124 W. Anderson Lane, Austin, Texas 78752.
