Condolence: Oh the memories I will cherish forever. I remember when I was about 8 years old sitting in a pancake house with my mom, and looking out across the parking lot and who did I see. My daddy V. Before my mom could stop me, I was out the door and there I went to get my hug from you. I was soooo excited. Little did I know that you were there to arrest the "bad guys" You took time to give my one of those hugs that I absolutley have always loved, and then quickly sent me back to my mother. You always took time for me. You will forever be in my heart, and in my memories. This world lost a good man when you went home, but rest high on that mountain Daddy Vernon. No more pain, and the heart and body of a child. You deserve it. I love you!

Condolence From: SCOTT CRUMLEY
Condolence: My memories of Vernon go back to when I was a child and I am nearly 60 years old. My Father, Maxwell H. Crumley spoke of Vernon from time to time. My Dad worked for LCRA and he often came to Austin. When he spoke of Vernon, he spoke with respect because he was an Officer of the Peace on the Austin Police force. Old names of Families who once were a part of Austin history are important. Despite the fact that the Crumley name may no longer be associated with many businesses or public offices, we still have been a part of this growing community since the middle 1800s. Vernon's ancestry is a prime example of that very idea. His Great Great Grandfather, Dr. Benjamin T. Crumley was a well respected member of the medical community in Austin in the late 1800s. Some of Dr. Crumley's children went on to be deputies for various law enforcement agencies in Texas. I am proud that Vernon Crumley followed in their footsteps. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Condolence: We lived next door and were childhhood friends into adult life as well. He was a "prince" of a man and a dear friend whom I shall miss dearly. We had great times together and at times mischieveous to put it mildly!

Condolence: I have known Vernon my entire life. He was my late Uncle Harold Wallace's cousin. I remember him as a kid when I would see him at Mr. Crumley's grocery store and remember that he was always so friendly. Later, we would be reacquainted when I went to work for the Austin Police Department. Even then, I found Vernon to be the same kind person he was when I was a kid. Of course, it goes without saying; Vernon sold me my first handgun at a 'bargain' price (according to him). He loved guns and arrowheads and could talk for hours about both. He will be sorely missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to Eda and the rest of the family.

Condolence: My heartfelt condolences go out to the Crumley family. Vernon was a great friend of our family and was one of my dad's favorite fellow horse traders. Vernon was also a great police officer. It was Vernon, who along with fellow officer and family friend Ted Hargis, proved to me at an early age that an officer is someone to be admired as well as respected.
